The imported flowers are predominated because the domestic flowers have a high price. For example, with the same kind of orchid, the flower from Dalat cost about 300-400 thousand VND per branch, the flower from Sapa costs 500-700 thousand VND per branch while the flower from China only costs about 200 thousand VND per branch. With this price, each orchid pot in domestic costs about 10 million VND and it not suitable for most of low-income people.
In an interview with a journalist from Customs newspaper, Mr. Dang Van Dong in the Institute of vegetable studying under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said: “Many consumers when going shopping for flowers only pay attention to the appearance and color of flowers not to its origin. Meanwhile, domestic flower is often not beautiful like imported flower. However, some people buy flowers for a few days and then they are quickly withered. At this time the consumers have known they come from China yet”.
According to Mr Dong, due to the disadvantages of imported flowers, the consumers trends to select domestic flowers. However, the insufficient supply of domestic flowers can not meet all the demands of consumers. Since early December, the flower garden has been ordered and at the middle of December, theflowers in the garden has expired.
“Although domestic flowers are fresh longer but few consumers know about them. One reason is that the flower garden owners are not pay attention to advertising, marketing to consumers about the flowers produced in the country, “said Dang Van Dong.
